The NLSC UAS assists disaster area images, land monitoring and maps renewal since 2012

一、The unmanned aircraft system (UAS) has been developing with the combination of aviation and mapping techniques to capture images over the specific interested sites. The National Land Surveying and Mapping Center (NLSC) initiated the pilot test on imagery capturing for mapping and accuracy verification in 2008. A 4-year plan (2011~2014) has been drown up for more active technology development on the aerial imagery collection for the purpose of disaster rescuing, land monitoring, land use investigation, and renewal of Common Version Electronic Maps(CVEM), and basic topographic maps etc. The first UAS belonging to surveying agency was built up in 2011 by NLSC.

二、For expanding the fields of application of UAS and enforcing the resources integration and cooperation among governmental agencies, the NLSC has created 15 areas for aerial photo capturing in 2012 fiscal year plan. Some of them are offered for any other central or local governmental agencies that may need for their own businesses. A conference was held on topics of the uses of UAS on May 25, 2012. The representatives from the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) and some local governments took part in the meeting to exchange the operating experiences and needs of UAS. NLSC hopefully will use UAS for updating maps and cooperating with other government agencies.
