The total land area of Taiwan (including all municipalities, counties and cities of the Taiwan Island, Penghu County, Kinmen County, and Lianjiang County) is around 3.62 million hectares. Up to 2014, about 3.52 million hectares of land have been surveyed and registered, which accounts for 97% of total. The unregistered area is about 100 thousand hectares, which accounts for 3% of total. Currently, the cadastral maps being used in Taiwan can be divided into three major categories by the aspect of mapping methods, named graphic mapping, numeric mapping, and digitalization from original graphic maps.
